Organisers hope to hold rescheduled regatta in March
| 5 January 2021
Hong Kong Race Week 2021 has been postponed, following an announcement by the Hong Kong government that current Covid-19 restrictions will remain in place for further two weeks.
The announcement was made on January 5 by the regatta’s organising committee, who decided the postponement was in the interest of public safety.
Hong Kong Race Week is a constituent event of the ASAF Youth Cup and is co-organised by Hong Kong Sailing Federation and Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club.
Chairman Peter Davies said that “on advice from the Hong Kong SAR Government, we are unable to proceed with the event on the current scheduled dates. This comes as a massive blow, being the second consecutive year that the event has succumbed to the Covid-19 pandemic situation. Nevertheless, ensuring the health and welfare of our competitors, volunteers, and staff at the event is our number one priority. We all want to go sailing, and will do our very best to react swiftly once it is clear that outdoor sports are able to open up again.”
Contingency planning is currently underway to reschedule the event to a date in March 2021, with details to be announced in the coming days. The HKRW online entry system will remain open.
