The Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show is to go ahead in May as planned, following a recent government announcement regarding New Zealand’s Covid-19 framework.

Organisers say the event, which features exhibitors from leisure marine and fishing industries, is able to run from 12-15 May at Auckland Showgrounds.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed last week that she is keen to remove the final Covid restrictions as soon as possible. It is expected that on 4 April, the government will announce the country is moving from red to orange, either immediately or within the next couple of weeks. Under the new ‘orange’ status, there will no longer be any limits on the number of people able to attend an indoor or outdoor event.

‘This news is a positive boost for the 2022 Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show,’ the organiser says in a statement. ‘So, too, was the announcement that the current traffic light settings will be reviewed on 4 April.’

In February, the Auckland Boat Show — the country’s only on-water show, set to take place in March this year — was cancelled for the third year in a row due to Covid.
