The new Majesty 120 from Gulf Craft shows the UAE builder to be reaching for a global audience with a mature and thoughtful pocket superyacht suited for day-trippers or those seeking longer-range thrills

Gulf Craft, the premier yacht builder of the United Arab Emirates, has been on a mission to compete head-to-head with Italian and UK builders of production motor yachts since 1982.
With all the attention surrounding the launch of the new Gulf Craft Majesty 120, it is fair to say the brand is closing in on its long-time goal. The new 37-metre tri-deck Majesty 120 is the result of design and engineering work that began in early 2019 and was later announced at the 2019 Monaco Yacht Show.
One of the key engineering features of the new 120 is that all the systems are electrically powered, replacing all the hydraulic equipment, from stabilisers to bow thrusters. The elimination of hydraulic systems added to the onboard comfort level by reducing the noise of the vessel in operation.
Gulf Craft, which appointed Talal Abdin Nasralla as its new CEO in February, is claiming that this new yacht represents the best of its brand. Gulf Craft also built the new Majesty 120 out of fibreglass and carbon fibre, thus reducing weight and gaining strength. This is in line with most yacht building in this category.
The exterior lines of the 120, developed by Gulf Craft, could be called “modern classic”, with angular windows and an aggressive profile that would fit comfortably into any superyacht marina. The huge windows on the main deck and the clean lines let this new 120 compare well with any production superyacht in the world today.
“Modern classic” are the styling watchwords with the Majesty 120Along with the huge windows, which let in light and a panoramic view of the sea, the low bulwarks allow for ornamental glass railings. This also adds to the sleek lines of this new Majesty. The yard worked with key collaborator Cristiano Gatto on the interior design.
The brief was to create an interior that would work in an international marketplace. That means buyers can expect to enjoy decent charter business out of this yacht and offset costs, or buyers should be able to enjoy decent resale value.
Gatto, who has collaborated with the shipyard on projects including the Majesty 175 and Majesty 140, said: “For me, the Majesty 120 perfectly captures the direction in which this innovative brand is heading, with her dynamic profile, balanced outdoor spaces and sophisticated interiors that are all designed with true yachtsmen and women in mind.”
The Majesty 140 won Best Interior Design at the 2019 World Yachts Trophies at the Cannes Yachting Festival. The new Majesty 120 incorporates hints of Japanese design ethic, with interesting touches such as sliding panel doors that resemble Japan’s famed Shoji paper doors next to the main dining table. Sliding the doors away reveals a giant cupboard for storing dining wares or other items.
The main saloon is clean design that is both simple and elegant, with flashes of blue that hint at the ocean outside the huge windows. The new 120 accommodates up to 10 guests in five staterooms using an asymmetric layout. The arrangement comprises a master stateroom, two VIP suites, a guest double and a guest twin.

All of the accommodation is ensuite and the lower deck cabins share an additional guest lounge. The master stateroom is on the main deck forward and it features a walk-in wardrobe plus sofas and a vanity table, all to create a safe haven for the owner. The lower deck has an open space in between guest cabins that can be used as a family room.
Buyers can create any type of room that makes sense – whether a children’s playroom or a karaoke lounge. Overall, there is over 570 square metres of living space onboard the 120, plenty of room for small groups to find a special spot to relax or have fun.
Up top, guests can enjoy a fully equipped sun deck, where a Jacuzzi awaits. Here, guests can take in the panoramic views while lounging at the full-service bar and grill area, relax on the lounges under the hard top bimini, or soak up the sun on enormous sun pads. At the bow, just forward of the helm station, there is a lounge area that works as a place for a morning coffee and the newspaper or sundowners just before dinner.
The forward sunshade of the bridge deck works to shelter guests sitting in this lounge area from the sun. The bow also has space to store two jetskis with a crane to deploy them.
There is space for two big tenders of over 10 metres in length, which can also be limousine tenders, thanks to the height of the tender bay spaces
The swimpad/aft deck area features a beach club which can also be used for tender storage. Here, a Williams Jet Tender can be stowed. The swim ladder can be made to descend into the water for easy access for swimmers, or it can be raised up to act as a diving platform.
Overall, the new 120 reportedly has a 30% increase in outdoor entertainment space than her predecessor. The Majesty 120 has a top speed of 23 knots, cruising speed of 18 knots, and a maximum range of 3,000 nautical miles at 10 knots, which is enough to let a Hong Kong-based owner cruise most areas of Southeast Asia, or even venture to destinations in the Indian Ocean, with little difficulty.
Destinations such as Yap or Singapore are within reach, while careful planning should make most destinations in the Asia-Pacific a possibility. A total of seven crew, including the captain, enjoy good accommodation. On the bridge deck, there is a spacious cabin right behind the helm station, which will be appreciated by prospective captains.
Thanks to the social distancing in the era of Covid-19, Hong Kong’s yacht owners have been spending more time onboard their yachts, often overnighting for the first time. The new Majesty 120 offers plenty for Hong Kong owners – the ability to overnight with plenty of space, or to think about journeys to far-flung destinations.
